Assistant Professor of Biology

Mount Mercy College is a Catholic, coeducational college founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928. The College offers a variety of liberal arts, professional, accelerated, and graduate degree programs. The picturesque campus is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and enrolls approximately 1600 students.

The Department of Natural, Mathematical and Computer Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in biology at the rank of assistant professor beginning Fall 2010. The selected candidate should be broadly trained in microbiology, and, preferably, invertebrate biology. Responsibilities include teaching a wide range of undergraduate introductory and upper-level biology courses to majors and non-majors; advising students; engaging in scholarship with undergraduates; and serving on college committees.

A Ph.D. is required, and teaching experience is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must also demonstrate a willingness to support Mount Mercy’s mission, which is a Catholic college providing student-focused baccalaureate and graduate education in the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy. Mount Mercy welcomes those of different faiths and is committed to excellence in education.

Qualified candidates should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, college transcripts, summary of teaching experience, the names and contact information for four references, as well as a statement of teaching philosophy and professional scholarship as it applies to undergraduate students at a baccalaureate institution by February 15, 2010, to:

Dr. Neil P. Bernstein
Department Chair
