The nursing curriculum integrates theoretical nursing content, simulation and skills practice and clinical experience in in-patient and community health settings. The collaboration of the Department of Nursing with Mercy Medical Center and metro Catholic schools in Cedar Rapids allows for unique clinical experiences in the health promotion of children. Under supervision of pediatric nurse practitioners (PNP), students perform screening, teaching and health promotion activities for in parochial schools. Students will participate in a variety of clinical experiences to address needs in the community, as well as, to meet the expectations of education for the requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree.
As senior students work in the community with a variety of hospital and community agencies to develop the leadership and learning about the leadership and management skills required of a nurse. These experiences, along with the essential liberal arts and sciences, prepare each student to begin a career as a professional nurse working with diverse populations in many different settings.
Nursing students are encouraged to be fully involved in campus activities including athletics, if that is one's passion. The rigorous, diverse educational opportunities offered by Mount Mercy allow students many choices to enhance their nursing education by interacting with members of the campus and local community. Many opportunities await those students who extend their reach and vision while at Mount Mercy University.
