Mount Mercy: A College of Distinction
The students, faculty
and staff of Mount Mercy have known for nearly 80 years that the
educational institution was exemplary in many ways. And now, an
outside organization is recognizing Mount Mercy for having engaged
students, great teaching, a vibrant community and successful outcomes
for its students.
Colleges of
Distinction, a non-profit organization that recognizes colleges
within the United States that exemplify those four main principles,
has named Mount Mercy as one of its top colleges. Mount Mercy’s
College of Distinction profile can be viewed at http://www.collegesofdistinction.com/collegetemplates/default.asp?cid=2351.
Colleges of Distinction
invited Mount Mercy College to join its higher education group
because the college attracts students who have a healthy range
of academic and extra-curricular interests; encourages innovative
“hands-on” learning techniques, ranging from fieldwork
and internships abroad to service learning and advanced research
at home; encourages faculty to be great teachers, who know students
as face-to-face community members; offers interesting and exciting
residential communities and a vibrant campus life; and has an
excellent placement record for employment and advanced study.
Mount Mercy uniquely
blends liberal arts education with professional preparation, and
encourages its students to strive for excellence through service
to the common good, strategic communication, reflective judgment,
and purposeful living. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928,
Mount Mercy is distinguished by graduates committed to service,
both in their choice of career and/or personal volunteer service
to the community.
