Mount Mercy will pay special tribute to its Mercy, Catholic heritage with Mercy and Mission Week beginning Friday, September 21, through Friday, September 28. Activities will include an International Peace Day and Dedication of Peace Pole, Celebration Mass with the Archdiocese of Dubuque, and a lecture with Mercy Day guest speaker Dr. Christine Pharr sharing her conversion to a Catholic, Mercy college.

Mount Mercy University's freshman enrollment saw a five percent increase this year and overall enrollment remains steady following a record-breaking year in 2011. For the second year in the institution's history, Mount Mercy is serving over 1,800 students between undergraduate, graduate, and adult accelerated programs.

As part of Mercy and Mission week activities at Mount Mercy University, Dr. Christine Pharr, vice president for academic affairs at College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Neb., will serve as the Mercy Day keynote speaker. Pharr's address, "My Conversion to a Catholic, Mercy College," will be held on Thursday, September 27, in Flaherty Community Room of Basile Hall at 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; seating may be limited.

Mount Mercy University has ranked higher in the top 25 Best Midwest Colleges according to the U.S. News & World Report. Mount Mercy ranked 21st in the Midwest Regional Colleges category, jumping ahead from last year’s rank of 24th, as cited in the 2013 Best Colleges guide released by U.S. News & World Report, and which will be on newsstands September 18.

Mount Mercy has appointed Nich Radcliffe as drama coordinator. Radcliffe brings with him experience in numerous aspects of theater production, including acting, directing, and technical work.

The Mount Mercy University Choir will participate in Orchestra Iowa's Brucemorchestra on Sunday, September 9, at 7:00 p.m. at Brucemore Historic Mansion. The event serves as the debut for Orchestra Iowa's 91st season. Also joining the event will be Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale, Coe College's choir, and Alan Huckleberry of The University of Iowa.

Mount Mercy University is proud to announce a new Nurse Faculty Loan program for graduate nursing students seeking a career as a nursing faculty member. Students enrolled in Mount Mercy’s Master of Science in Nursing program in the Education Track are eligible to receive a low interest loan that will be forgiven upon obtaining a teaching position at any post-secondary institution.

Mount Mercy University announced today that Melody A. Graham, Ph.D., has been named provost, after serving as acting provost since July 2011. Her new role will take effect September 1, 2012.

Mount Mercy University is pleased to announce that Michelle Beisker has been appointed director of development. Beisker previously served as the chief operating officer at Waypoint, a humanitarian service organization for women, children, and families, in Cedar Rapids.

Mount Mercy University has appointed Michael Lown as admissions representative for advance and graduate programs. Lown was previously an admissions representative at ITT Technical Institute. He holds two bachelor’s degrees from The University of Iowa.

Mount Mercy University has named Robert B. Callahan vice president for enrollment management, effective August 9. Callahan will spearhead the newly created division of enrollment management, providing vision and leadership for the departments of admissions, athletics, communications and marketing, and financial aid.

When Mount Mercy's Psychology Club members were looking for a service project this spring, they came upon a unique request: fleece tie blankets. The inspiration came from The University of Iowa Hospitals, which needed soft and colorful blankets for some of their younger patients, as well as for elderly psychiatric patients.

Mount Mercy University was selected to serve as the first institution to be evaluated on its adult accelerated programs by the Commission for Accelerated Programs (CAP), an international membership organization serving professionals who lead, teach, and conduct research in accelerated programs in higher education.
