Mount Mercy's ExploreU introduces middle-school girls to STEM

For the third year, Mount Mercy University will host ExploreU@MMU World of Technology, a week-long summer program for middle-school girls interested in math and computer science.  Dr. Jitka Stehnova, assistant professor of mathematics, and Dr. Elizabeth Kleiman, assistant professor of computer science, will coordinate this year’s program thanks to support from a Tensor Women and Mathematics Grant through the Mathematical Association of America.

Shakespeare on the Hill: Voice Recital Series

Weaving together music and stage, the University Center will pulse with the powerful voices of professional opera singers, the Mount Mercy University Madrigal Singers, and the outstanding theatrical performances of drama students on Saturday, April 26. Shakespeare on the Hill will entwine breathtaking Bard-inspired arias and duets with scenes from plays including Macbeth, Hamlet, West Side Story and many more.
Michelle Snitselaar appointed to Iowa center for Nursing Workforce Advisory Committee

Director of Health Services Michelle Snitselaar, RN, MSN has been appointed to serve on the Iowa Center for Nursing Workforce Advisory Committee. The committee will consist of 12 to 14 key stakeholders representing various aspects of the healthcare field from across Iowa. Snitselaar’s role on the committee is to represent Mount Mercy as a private university offering BSN or higher nursing degrees.
Celebrating international culture during the Multicultural Fair at Mount Mercy University

The fair showcases the rich histories of cultures represented in Mount Mercy's student body, as well as promotes peace as a counter-culture initiative.
Shakespeare Festival at Mount Mercy University

Mount Mercy will celebrate Shakespeare Festival April 22-26. The week-long fest is a unique collaboration between members of the music, English, and drama departments aimed to honor Shakespeare’s 450th birthday. Tony Nickle, adjunct faculty in the music department, started the project as a part of the Voice Recital Series, a concert series that features professional opera singers.
Assistant Professor of Mathematics presents at Midwest Undergraduate Math Symposium

Dr. Jitka Stehnova, assistant professor of mathematics, will be a plenary speaker at this year’s Midwest Undergraduate Math Symposium (MUMS) in Indianola on April 11, 2014. MUMS is one of the largest math conferences in the region, and is designed to foster student engagement and growth in the realms of mathematical sciences. Mount Mercy faculty and students have led peer discussion in past years, but the 2014 event marks the first year Dr. Stehnova will address all symposium attendees.
