Members of our Mount Mercy community, A dear and well-respected colleague, teacher, and friend has passed away, and I know the entire campus will join me in mourning the loss of David Doerge.  David joined the Political Science faculty in 2001 and was serving as Chair of Mount Mercy’s History, Politics, and Justice Department. David’s outstanding work and personal gifts have touched the lives of many on campus and beyond through the years since he joined Mount Mercy’s faculty, and he will be truly missed.
Haley Rinaldi

The Mount Mercy University community is mourning the loss of Haley Rinaldi, 21, a senior from Basalt, Colo., who was killed in a boating accident on Friday at the Ruedi Reservoir in Colorado. Rinaldi, 21, was a biology major and a member of the Mount Mercy women's soccer team who transferred from Waldorf in 2012. Service arrangements are pending. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Haley's family and friends during this difficult time.

Mount Mercy University has appointed Christopher B. Rhynerson as vice president for finance & business services. Rhynerson was previously the associate vice president for finance and planning at Upper Iowa University.

This spring, Mount Mercy students participated in a two-day Student Outdoor Educators Conference during which they presented information about Iowa algific talus slopes – geological areas with unique microclimates, plants, and animals.

For the first time ever, Mount Mercy University is offering online bachelor's degree programs in business and human resource management. These new bachelor's programs are designed to help students with some college or an associate's degree reach their educational goals in a flexible, accelerated format.

Mount Mercy’s Dean of Adult Programs Tom Castle published an article in The evoLLLution about the value of a college degree. In the article, Castle encourages educators to focus on exceptional educational quality versus a low-cost, corporate approach. He notes higher education is one of the most successful industries in the country with scholars from across the globe migrating to pursue cutting-edge research. Read the full article

Congratulations to the following students named to the Dean's List for the spring 2013 semester. Students with a semester grade point average of 3.60 or better, and who are graded (letter grade, not pass/fail) for six or more semester hours, are eligible for inclusion on the Dean's List.

Mount Mercy University invites high school students and their parents/guardians to visit campus during Iowa Private College Week August 5 – 9. Prospective students will have the opportunity to tour campus, meet with professors, coaches and current students, and learn about academic and extracurricular opportunities. Sessions are available in the morning or afternoon each day of the week.
