Mount Mercy has been recognized in the Center for Student Opportunity’s 2011 College Access & Opportunity Guide, a comprehensive college guidebook designed to help low-income, first-generation college-bound students make their college dreams a reality. Mount Mercy is highlighted as an institution making strides in outreach efforts, financial aid opportunities and student support services in an effort to attract and retain students who might otherwise miss a higher education opportunity.

Mount Mercy invites prospective students and their families to visit campus during Iowa Private College Week (IPCW) August 2 – 6.Students who are interested in finding the right college fit for them can learn more about Mount Mercy’s affordability, strong academic programs, student-focused interaction with faculty, and competitive athletic and vibrant intramural programs. Daily programs are scheduled at 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., beginning in Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall.

Yellowstone Park authorities are confirming that retired Mount Mercy Associate Professor of Biology Frank Jaszcz has died following a fishing accident in Yellowstone National Park. Mount Mercy faculty, staff and students extend their deepest condolences to Jaszcz’s family.

Mount Mercy will hold an Advance Program Information Session on Wednesday, July 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall on the Mount Mercy campus. The Info Session will include an overview of Mount Mercy’s accelerated adult program, a question and answer session with current students and faculty, door prizes, and information on Mount Mercy’s financial aid opportunities.

Mount Mercy’s 2009 President’s Report magazine was recently given the Award of Distinction at the 2010 International Academy of the Visual Arts Communicator Awards design competition. The Communicator Awards is one of the largest design competitions in the world, and this year drew over 7,000 entries from across the country. The Mount Mercy Magazine is designed by Benson & Hepker Design in Iowa City.

By the request of Dr. Christopher Blake of Mount Mercy, Archbishop Jerome Hanus of Dubuque has approved the appointment of Father Dustin L. Vu as part-time chaplain at Mount Mercy. He will begin his duties July 13.  Fr. Vu will replace Mount Mercy’s chaplain Father Nick B. March, who has been appointed to serve as pastor of Christ Our Hope Cluster in Northeast Iowa.
