The Mount Mercy College Choir and Jazz Connection presented a ceremony of traditional readings and carols of the season on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. The concert took place in Stello Performance Hall, Warde Hall, and was free and open to the public. The choir performed Psallite by Michael Praetorius, Carol of the Candle by Stephen Paulus, My Dancing Day, arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw, Sing We All Noel, arranged by Gary Parks, and Christmas Day by Gustav Holst.

Mount Mercy College has announced that Ely, Iowa, resident Terry Schneekloth ’91 has been named president of the alumni board. He began his duties October 17, and will serve a two-year term. Schneekloth has been a member of the alumni board since 2004. He will be taking over for Susan Smith ’89 who will now serve as past president. Tricia Hoffman-Simanek ’91 will serve as vice president. Schneekloth graduated from Mount Mercy in 1991 with degrees in math education and secondary education. He currently teaches math at Jefferson High School.

Mount Mercy Professor of English Dr. Jim Grove and Dr. Libor Práger from Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic, will present “The Velvet Revolution: 20 Years Later” during a special faculty forum on Wednesday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall on the Mount Mercy campus. The forum is free and open to the public.

Mount Mercy Professor of Art Jane Gilmor will showcase her newest art exhibit, “The Architecture of Migration: I’ll be Back for the Cat,” at Humanities Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. The exhibit will run November 12 through December 18, 2009.

Mount Mercy Associate Professor of Nursing Cathy Penn has been selected to present at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Annual Baccalaureate Education Conference on November 19-20 in Chicago.The presentation, “Got Public Health?” details advances in city planning, sanitation and immunization, and illustrates the contemporary issue of health protection from an interdisciplinary approach. More than 500 attendees are expected to participate in the national conference.

Mount Mercy’s Media Relations Manager Emily Muhlbach ’08 will offer a presentation on social media during the 2009 American Advertising Federation Creative Academy on Friday, November 6.  Muhlbach will provide insight into how to utilize social media, make online connections, network with other professionals, and cultivate a professional online presence.

Mount Mercy College will hold an informational open house on Wednesday, November 11 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Kirkwood Community College’s new facility in Monticello, located at 220 Welter Drive.Beginning Spring 2010, Mount Mercy will offer courses and majors for adults in business and applied management through the Advance @ Mount Mercy program at the Kirkwood facility. Mount Mercy faculty will teach at the new facility, offering convenient and flexible class schedules that allow adult students to balance classes, work and family.

Mount Mercy will welcome special guests Linda and Robert Scarth, Cedar Rapids photographers, during a special community wide book club held on Wednesday, November 11 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.The book clubs, sponsored by Mount Mercy’s Busse Library, meet monthly in Mount Mercy’s Busse Center, and are free and open to the public.

Mount Mercy College will hold a Master of Business Administration Information Session on Thursday, November 12 at 5:30 p.m.at Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall. The application fee will be waived for all attendees.The MBA Information Session will include an overview of the accelerated format and curriculum of Mount Mercy’s graduate program, a question and answer session with current students and faculty, door prizes, information on Mount Mercy’s financial aid opportunities, and an optional campus tour.
