When Michael Kutcher ‘02 graduated from Mount Mercy with degrees in management and finance, he didn’t plan on a career in public speaking.  After an eye-opening encounter with a five-year-old living with pronounced cerebral palsy – a condition Kutcher shares in mild form – Michael decided to let life lead him toward his true calling: motivational speaking.

Nearly 300 guests are expected to attend the 71st NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet in Cedar Rapids on October 26.  Mount Mercy University is proud to partner in sponsorship of this annual awareness-building event. “Mount Mercy is pleased to support NAACP’s efforts,” states Dr. Jan Handler, provost.  “Their advocacy toward social justice is steadfast and one we can all stand behind.”

Mount Mercy University will welcome Rt. Rev. John Klassen, O.S.B., bio-chemist and abbot of the Benedictine Community, St. John's Abbey in Collegeville, for the annual Aquinas Lecture on October 25 at 7:00 p.m. in Betty Cherry Heritage Hall on the Mount Mercy campus. The lecture is free and open to the public; seating may be limited. A shuttle service will be available for those needing assistance from the parking lot to the entrance.
