Mount Mercy University is hosting "Tales of the Season" Sunday, December 2, from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Activities will include storytelling with Steve Arnold, holiday crafts, cookie decorating and a special guest appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations in advance are required and should be submitted to Mount Mercy's Associate Director of Alumni Relations Catherine Shafer at cshafer@mtmercy.edu by November 27.

Mount Mercy University will welcome alumni to campus for Homecoming October 5 – 6. Special events include a spotlight on alumni emergency service careers, a balloon glow, wine tasting and live band and dance. Traditional favorites will also be held including alumni games, an alumni recognition luncheon, and alumni hall of fame induction.

Six Mount Mercy alums have been named one of the "100 Great Iowa Nurses" for 2012. This year's honorees from Mount Mercy include: Carol James Haendler '81, of Cedar Rapids, employed at St. Luke's Hospital; Janet Allie Hosking '96, of Cedar Rapids, employed by University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; Deborah Rathbun Kohler '98, of Marion, employed at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; Carolyn Gagnon March '98, of Marion, employed at Mercy Medical Center Cedar Rapids; Sarah Schumacher Ryan '03, of Dubuque, employed at Finley Hospital; and Kathy Takes Schneider '80, of West Burlington, employed at Burlington Community School District.

Mount Mercy alumni couples were treated to a special gathering at Bricks Bar & Grill in downtown Cedar Rapids on Valentine’s Day this year. The event provided an opportunity for alumni to mingle and share their stories while enjoying the atmosphere in an alumni-owned establishment.

It all started with a shirt that said one word: “single.” When Mindy Lawrence Chrisman ‘05 noticed the shirt Eric Chrisman ’05 was wearing, she was immediately interested in learning more about him. “From the first moment that I saw him, I knew that I had to meet him. His shirt was proof that he must have a great sense of humor,” Mindy said.
