In an effort to promote bicycling as a form of transportation and healthy living, Mount Mercy University has done a number of things to convert the campus to a bike-friendly space. These efforts have led Mount Mercy to receive an honorable mention in the Bicycle Friendly University category from the League of American Bicyclists, one of only two universities in Iowa to be recognized.

Mount Mercy University will host a texting while driving simulator on campus September 10, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Partnering with an organization called PEER Awareness, Mount Mercy’s M2AP Board, Student Activities and Recreation and Wellness groups all came together to bring the simulation to campus. The simulator showcases the dangers of texting while driving in a safe, controlled environment.

As Iowa gears up to participate in the Healthiest State Initiative and earn Cedar Rapids a placement in the Blue Zone Project, Mount Mercy is raising the level of awareness and campus support to help organizers reach their goal of becoming the healthiest state in the country by 2016.
