David Van Allen, emeritus professor at Mount Mercy University, will be one of three artists showcased in “A different view,” Black Earth Gallery’s latest show. An opening reception will be held on Feb. 6 from 5-7 p.m. The work of Shane McCallister and Ellen Mariano will also be featured. The show will run through March 29 at Black Earth Gallery, 329 10th Avenue SE, suite 231. Van Allen became a full-time employee at Mount Mercy in 1991. In addition to teaching, he was gallery director and college photographer.

If you pick up a copy of Ceramics Monthly Magazine’s October edition, you’ll see one of Assistant Professor of Art Andy Casto’s ceramic sculptures featured. Among works from 57 juried artists, Casto’s piece recently won second place in an exhibition in Stockton, California..

Mount Mercy University's Janalyn Hanson White Gallery is currently displaying the work of Mount Mercy students. The exhibit runs through June 30 and is open to the public for viewing during regular university business hours. Janalyn Hanson White Gallery is located on the terrace level of McAuley Hall.

Mount Mercy University's Janalyn Hanson White Gallery will showcase the capstone projects of senior art students during a Senior Thesis Exhibit April 28 – May 24. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, April 28, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in Janalyn Hanson White Gallery. This event is open to the public.

Mount Mercy University will display work from local high school students as part of the High School Art Exhibit taking place through April 26. The 38th Annual High School Art Day will take place on, Friday, April 26, at 10:00 a.m. in McAuley Theatre. Muralist and children's author and illustrator Katie Yamasaki will  speak to high school students as part of the event. Yamasaki will serve as the speaker for a forum open to the public on Monday, April 29, from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., in Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall.

Mount Mercy University will feature the exhibit “Namaste Nepal! Contemporary Artist Voices,” March 8 – April 7 in Janalyn Hanson White Gallery. The exhibit includes the contemporary artwork of: Binod Shrestha, Ashmina Ranjit, Sujan Chitrakar, Hitman Gurung, Mekh Limbu, Asha Dangol and Supriya Manandhar.

Mount Mercy University's Janalyn Hanson White Gallery will feature the artistic work of Erica Damman in the exhibit "Mapping Recovery: Five Years Later," February 8 – March 1. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Viewings outside of regular business hours can be arranged by checking out a key from the University Center Information Desk. An artist talk will be held on Friday, February 8, from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. in Lundy 3, Lower Lundy.

Janalyn Hanson White Gallery will feature the works of Steven Deo, Tom Jones, Larry McNeil, Ryan Lee Smith, Star Wallowing Bull and Marie Watt in the exhibit “Migrations: New Directions in Native American Printmaking” January 7 – February 1. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Viewings can be arranged outside or regular hours by checking out a key from the University Center Information Desk. A closing reception will be held on Friday, February 1, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the gallery.

Mount Mercy University's Janalyn Hanson White Gallery will display the ceramics and sculptures of Assistant Professor of Art Andrew Casto beginning Friday, November 16, during a special exhibit: "An Exercise in Fluidity: Recent Work by Andrew Casto." The exhibit will be on display from November 16 to December 14 and is free and open to the public for viewing. An artist talk will be held on Friday, November 16, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Lundy Hall, Lundy 3, followed by an opening reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Janalyn Hanson White Gallery.

Mount Mercy Professor Emeritus Jane Gilmor will share readings from her new book I'll Be Back For The Cat, a career monograph of her work as an Iowan artist, on Wednesday, November 14. An artist's talk will take place at CSPS, 1103 Third Street SE, Cedar Rapids, at 7:00 p.m., followed by a book signing at New Bo Books located inside CSPS at 8:00 p.m. Gilmor will also make an appearance in New York City at A.I.R. Gallery alongside art historian Joy Sperling on Saturday, December 15, for a book signing.

Mount Mercy University's Janalyn Hanson White Gallery will display the works from the collection of Paula and Tom Van Deest during a special exhibit, "The Obsessive Visionary Art of Stephen J.M. Palmer and the Sacrificial Love Society." The exhibit, free and open to the public, runs October 12 – November 9. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. A collector talk will be held on Friday, October 12, at 5:00 p.m. in Lundy Hall, Lundy 3, to celebrate the opening of this exhibit on campus.

Mount Mercy students in Professor of Art Jane Gilmor's "New Genres" class undertook a unique project that examined the historic White Elephant thrift store in Cedar Rapids. The result is five student-created installations that draw from inspiration from the building and aspects of the past.
