The Mount Mercy University community is mourning the loss of Danny DeBacker, a senior from Orion, Ill., who was killed in an automobile accident early the morning of Sept. 28. DeBacker, 22, was a double major in psychology and biology and a member of the Mount Mercy men's basketball team, as well as track and field, who transferred from Black Hawk Community College in 2013. Service arrangements are pending. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Danny's family and friends during this difficult time.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- At the end of the day, Mount Mercy hoped to have a share of the conference title. That didn't pan out, but the Mustangs won for the fifth time in six games, edging Viterbo (Wis.), 70-67, at Hennessey Recreation Center on Saturday to clinch the second seed in next week's Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament.
