Work continues at The Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex

Crews resume field work as spring temperatures set in.

The 22-acre athletic complex has been abuzz over winter preparing to welcome six of Mount Mercy's athletic teams home this fall.

A busy winter

Although most outdoor work was put on pause during the icy winter months, the indoor facilities have seen an incredible amount of activity.

Since our last update, crews have completed both the exterior and interior block work, plumbing, ductwork, and roofing on the multi-use facility—which will house public restrooms, team locker rooms, showers, and training rooms. The softball dugouts and track/soccer field press box have also been constructed.

A cold day for softball. Construction crews tell us that layers (and beards) are the most-effective way to stay warm while they work outdoors in the winter.

Next steps

As the ground thaws and finishing touches wrap up on the indoor facilities, work will resume on the outdoor fields. The turf soccer field and track surfaces will be installed next, followed by the construction of the baseball field—the final major portion of this project.

Upon completion in August 2017, The Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex will provide a permanent home for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s track and field, baseball, and softball.
