Mount Mercy University has named Catherine Shafer associate director of alumni relations. Shafer previously served as the facilities coordinator at the president's house for University of Northern Iowa, in which she planned and managed events held at the president's home. She also worked closely with the president and his wife to build relationships for the university. She holds her bachelor's degree from University of Northern Iowa.

As the associate director of alumni relations at Mount Mercy University, Shafer plans alumni events, manage alumni recognition and awards programs, serves on the alumni board and maintain relationships with alumni. Shafer also coordinates an alumni volunteer program with various campus departments.

Mount Mercy's alumni office plans many regional events throughout the year for alums to reconnect and share memories. With over 5,000 alumni residing in Linn County, many graduates remain closely connected with the university, volunteering their time for events and developing strong relationships with current students.
