Mount Mercy recognized as 'Catholic College of Distinction'

Mount Mercy University announced today that it has been named one of the 2012-2013 Catholic Colleges of Distinction. This recognition was bestowed by the national organization, Colleges of Distinction, which will feature prominently the selected colleges and universities on its Website.

Mount Mercy University is the only Catholic institution in the state of Iowa to receive this recognition.

The 2012-2013 Catholic Colleges of Distinction excel within four categories, including engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes.

Mount Mercy was invited to join the higher education group in 2007 because the institution attracts students who have a healthy range of academic and extra-curricular interests; encourages innovative "hands-on" learning techniques, ranging from fieldwork and internships abroad to service learning and advanced research at home; encourages faculty to be great teachers, who know students as face-to-face community members; offers interesting and exciting residential communities and a vibrant campus life; and has an excellent placement record for employment and advanced study.

"We are pleased that Colleges of Distinction has recognized Mount Mercy University for its excellence in providing a Catholic, Mercy-inspired education, as well as for its distinct blend of liberal arts and professional studies that prepares students for future work and service in the community," says President Christopher Blake.

"Colleges of Distinction is a helpful guide for students, parents and high school counselors in navigating the college search process and we applaud it for its focus on those issues most important when selecting a college: challenging academics, student life, the quality of teaching, and successful outcomes," says Scott Baumler, assistant vice president for enrollment management and dean of admissions.
