Mount Mercy honors alumni during Homecoming 2010

Mount Mercy University honored eight alumni on Saturday, October 2, during a special recognition luncheon as part of Mount Mercy’s Homecoming 2010 celebration.

Cedar Rapids resident Katie Ferris Feldman ’80 received the Alumni Misericordiae Award, presented for humanitarian service to others through professional or volunteer activities. Feldman currently serves as a clinical nurse specialist at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

The Certificate of Merit Award was bestowed on three alumni for showing promise of significant professional growth or achievement from the use of their Mount Mercy education. They include Cedar Rapids residents Melissa Gerlach ’08, inpatient glycemic control nurse at Mercy Medical Center; and Brittney Prins ’07, who holds four positions in the Accounting/Finance Rotate Program at Rockwell Collins, Inc; and Marion, Iowa resident Gabriel Gluba ’04, program supervisor for the Johnson County iCan program at Horizons, A Family Service Alliance.

The Professional Achievement Award was presented to four alumni for significant contributions or achievements in their professional field. They include Cedar Rapids residents Greg Buelow ’95, special projects coordinator/public information officer at the Cedar Rapids Fire Department; and Darla Deal Petersen ’87, professional project manager for the Shive-Hattery Community Development Team; Metamora, Ill. resident Lois Bentler-Lampe ’86, systems director of nursing education for OSF Healthcare; and Davenport, Iowa resident Mary Clark ’82, director of nursing practice, research and innovation at the Genesis Medical Center.
