Mount Mercy's Dance Team earns highest rating at State Dance Competition

Mount Mercy’s Dance Team received a Division 1 rating, the highest rating a team can earn, during the Iowa State Dance Competition in Des Moines, Iowa on December 4. This will be the third year in a row the team has earned a Division 1 rating. 

Co-captains of the team are junior Kayla Happel, from Hiawatha, Iowa, and senior Jennifer Petersen, from Cedar Rapids. Team members include freshmen Alyssa Corrigan, from Cedar Rapids; Shawna Gire, from Marion, Iowa; Lauren Kramer, from Hopkinton, Iowa; Kelsey Anderson, from Carlisle, Iowa; sophomore Staci Thompson, from Cedar Rapids; juniors Emily Jimenez, from Mingo, Iowa; and Kathy Mostek, from Washington, Iowa. Brenda Steinke, Mount Mercy’s coordinator of recreation & wellness programs, serves as the team’s advisor. 

Mount Mercy’s Dance squad is a team of motivated individuals who dedicate their time and energy to enriching student life at Mount Mercy. The team is comprised of young women from a variety of majors and grade levels. The team is a multifaceted squad through which members not only perform at all home basketball games, but travel to competitions, participate in service activities, and fundraise throughout the year.
