By Iris Jovanovic - Staff Writer Since there is just two weeks until the semester is over, around 20 SIFE members will take their finals earlier and along with their business and marketing teachers Tom Castle, Anne King and Beth Tjelle, will take off for the Windy City on May 14, where they are going to spend two days competing against other Regional winning teams from all over the United States. “I’m sure we will do very well in our bracket,” said Sarah Jencks, marketing and management senior. “We all can’t wait to share all the excitement made the impact we had on our community.” The Mount Mercy SIFE presenting team formed of six speakers and a technology assistant will present their 24 minutes long power point presentation about their year long service to the local community with which they won the Regional’s in Minneapolis almost two moths ago. Since March they have been working on and improving their appearance by adding some new projects to the presentation. Definitely, one of the most important projects they did in the meantime was the venture called “Reaching beyond Border.” In fact, over spring break three SIFE members flew to Mexico where they spent some days teaching high school and college students about entrepreneurship, personal success, financial management and leadership skills. “This project was an excellent idea which helped us get in touch with students from different cultural backgrounds, and interchange ideas that are learned differently between our two countries,” said Yesenia Mendoza, sophomore majoring in international studies. In addition to the ongoing issue between the United States and Mexico there is going to be an event held today, at 7:30 p.m. in Flaherty by the name of “Take a stand” where students have the opportunity to speak out and debate about this existing battle. |
