Assistant Professor of Education Marc McCoy joined Mount Mercy in 2010, after serving as an adjunct instructor since fall 2009. McCoy previously served as principal at Excelsior Middle School in Marion, Iowa. He also served as a high school associate principal and junior high school principal at Linn-Mar, as well as an adjunct instructor at Drake University and the University of Northern Iowa.
McCoy is a member of the ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), the National Middle School Association (NMSA), the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and the School Administrators of Iowa (SAI). He also serves as a manuscript reviewer for the National Middle School Journal.
He received the Scottish Rite Doctoral Fellowship in 1985, and earned the Linn-Mar LION "Innovator Award" in the spring of 2010. He has also served as the president of the Iowa Association for Middle Level Education (IAMLE) and the Cedar Rapids Association of Secondary School Principals (CRASSP).
McCoy and his wife Terri have two adult sons, Sean and Matt. They enjoy traveling, biking, reading, working out, and spending autumn Saturdays at Kinnick Stadium. He and his wife volunteer with their church's Saturday Evening Meal Program (SEMP), and spent time working on behalf of flood victims after the floods of 2008.
