netLibrary
Busse Library owns over 4350 online eBooks through the BCR netLibrary
project. There are also a large number of public domain eBooks available through
netLibrary. A selected group of these eBooks are found in Horizon, the library
catalog, but most are only accessible here.
We suggest that MMC students, faculty and
staff set up online accounts while using on-campus computers. This will give you
access to the subscription, as well as public collections, with your login, even when you
are off campus. To do this click on create account the first time you open
netLibrary and follow the instructions. Thereafter, start by clicking on log in
each time you open netLibrary from any computer on or off campus. You may checkout books
for three days for reading online. Each time you want to look at the book during
those three days log in and click on my eBooks. You may check it in before the
three days are up or it will automatically do so when your loan period expires.
When searching be sure to click the include
public eBooks box to access these, as well the ones to which we subscribe.
We recommend that you read your eBooks
online rather than download them and have to install them in the reader, which you also
would need to download. If you download you can only read the eBook from that computer.
Reading online can be from anywhere you have www access.
When you click on my eBooks, you
will see a list of the books you have and their checkout status. To read one, click
on reading option online. The next screen will have two frames. Toward the bottom
of the left hand frame is the view table of contents button. Click on it to
select the part(s) you want to browse or read. Click on the section you want to see
first. Next to use the full screen for reading, click on the toggle button, Hide
Tools, on the upper right of the screen. To return to the table of contents frame,
click on Show Tools. You can also go from page to page using the buttons on
the upper right.
Some of these eBooks are catalogued in
Horizon, the Busse Library catalog. If you find one while searching Horizon, click
on the access URL and follow the same procedure described above. If you have questions, be
certain to speak with the Reference Librarian.
