Mount Mercy professor and alumni compete in regional band competition
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (June 01, 2009) --
Mount Mercy College Assistant Professor of Business Tracy Tunwall and Mount Mercy alumni Clint Landis ’88 and Brett Karminski ’01 will travel to California June 20 with their band, Aeroroot, to compete in the regional semi-finals for FORTUNE’s Battle of the Corporate Bands.

One of 16 bands selected, Aeroroot, named after the herb arrowroot and as a tribute to Aerosmith, is made up of four members, all Frontier Natural Products Co-op™ employees. Tunwall, who formerly served as vice president of human resources for Frontier, plays bass guitar and sings back-up vocals. Band members include Landis, lead vocalist and chief marketing officer for Frontier, Karminski, lead guitarist and Frontier band manager, and Steve Krusie, director of public relations, who plays drums and sings back-up vocals.

“We are very excited about getting to play at the Key Club on Sunset Blvd,” says Tunwall. “We will be playing on the same stage as many rock and roll, soul, and rap legends. We are huge music fans and feel very honored to have this opportunity!”

A panel of judges from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum selected the final 16 bands to compete in the regional competition. Nationals will be held in October at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland.

Aeroroot was formed five years ago and routinely performs for charity functions, including fundraisers for the American Cancer Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Last year Aeroroot raised over $300,000 in one evening for the Diabetes Research Foundation.

The band is also performing June 13 at the Floodstock Festival, an outdoor benefit concert to assist in the recovery of the devastating June 2008 floods, where Karminski’s parents lost their home.
