Mount Mercy is a leading choice for non-traditional adult students seeking a baccalaureate degree while maintaining full-time employment.  In a continued effort to better serve the adult population, Mount Mercy College and Hawkeye Community College have partnered to offer an accelerated degree completion program on Hawkeye’s campus beginning Fall 2009. 

Recognizing that life experience is a valid source of knowledge and the premise that adults are self-directed and intrinsically motivated, accelerated courses are formatted into five-, or 10-week blocks in which students attend class one night per week for three or four hours. Classes are taught on campus at Hawkeye by Mount Mercy faculty.

In-class hours are replaced with a range of cooperative and individual learning opportunities outside of the classroom to allow students an opportunity to maintain the balance in their personal and professional life while pursuing their bachelor’s degree.

Mount Mercy offers accelerated degree completion programs in:

Applied Management

As an Applied Management major, you will develop the administrative skills that will prepare you for management positions in technical fields and become a competent strategic planner.
The Applied Management degree provides students with:
• A firm understanding of finance, accounting, marketing, economics and management
• An understanding of how to analyze financial data in the decision making process
• Preparation to make ethical business decisions
 

Management

As a Management major, you will learn how to get things done efficiently and effectively in an ever-changing, global environment. The focus of the Management degree is on developing skills necessary in for-profit and non-profit organizations.
The Management degree provides students with:
• The skills to analyze business data
• The ability to make strategic and tactical decisions
• An understanding of how to conceptualize and interpersonally communicate


Admission Requirements

• Must be at least 23 years of age
• Must have a minimum of three years full-time work experience
• Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on 4.0 scale

*  Applicants not meeting the above criteria may qualify for admission upon consideration by the Mount Mercy College Admission Committee.
*  In accordance with the articulation agreement, students who have earned an associate’s degree from Hawkeye Community College are eligible for admission to Mount Mercy College. 

Course Format

Classes are offered in five-week and ten week blocks one night a week beginning at 5:30 p.m. There are nine blocks each calendar year. Students may enter at the beginning of any block to start taking courses. Students also have the option to duel enroll in both ten week and five week courses.

Transfer Policy

If you are pursuing your bachelor’s degree via the Mount Mercy – Hawkeye Partnership, you may be eligible to benefit from the 75-hour transfer policy which allows students who have earned an associate degree in an approved major at Hawkeye to transfer up to an additional 12 hours over the 63 credit hour maximum allowed to transfer from the two-year to four-year school.
