Financial Aid Counselor

Mount Mercy University is a Catholic, coeducational University founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928 enrolling approximately 1800 students.  The University offers a variety of liberal arts, professional, accelerated and graduate degree programs on a picturesque campus overlooking the city.

Mount Mercy University is currently seeking candidates to fill the position of Financial Aid Counselor in the Financial Aid Department.   This position reports to the Financial Aid Director. This is a full-time Exempt (salary) position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Counseling and advising to all students, including those enrolled in the adult accelerated, graduate and online programs, about the financial aid process
  • Explaining financial aid policies and procedures to students
  • Managing all aspects of the financial aid process including reviewing student files, verification, packaging awards and making adjustments
  • Answering questions regarding billing and student accounts
  • Participating in the delivery of a variety of presentations to various sized groups
  • Understand and adhere to national guidelines for ethical, confidential, and supportive financial aid processes so students and families can make well-informed decisions
  • Manage the day to day operations of the federal work study process. This includes initial job placements, collection of state and federal W-4’s, federal I-9 forms and monthly timesheets and maintaining proper communication with payroll and accounting.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, exceptional customer service skills, the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and be detail oriented.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new computer programs quickly is required.  Experience working in a higher education setting with knowledge of administering Title IV aid is highly desirable.
