The Division of Enrollment and Student Life encompasses a host of diverse programs including admissions, residence life, health and wellness, public safety, athletics, student activities and orientation. Every day, our staff works to create a welcoming campus where students can attend to their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health and growth. Dr. Jennifer “Sue” Oatey joined Mount Mercy as vice president for enrollment and student life in August 2008. As part of her role in directing the Enrollment and Student Life Division, Oatey oversees admissions, residence life, health & wellness programs, public safety, athletics, and student activities and orientation. Oatey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from New Mexico State University. She earned a Master of Arts in Teaching degree with an emphasis in Physical Education in 1973 from New Mexico State University, and holds a Ph.D. in Education with a special emphasis in Recreation, Park, and Leisure Studies, which she achieved in 1981 from the University of Minnesota.

Hanson came to Mount Mercy and to residence life after working in academic counseling, athletics, and health education at a large state university. She lived on campus with the students for over 10 years. She currently resides close-by in campus-owned housing. Hanson enjoys being part of students’ lives and growth over their tenure at Mount Mercy. She encourages students to see the out-of-classroom experiences as part of the education they are receiving: try new things, learn new skills, even try things they think they won’t like!

Scott BaumlerScott Baumler

Scott Baumler joined Mount Mercy as Dean of Admissions in May 2010. As Dean of Admissions, Baumler is responsible for planning and implementing effective recruitment strategies to attract undergraduate students, leading Mount Mercy’s admissions team, and coordinating with faculty, staff and students to reach institutional enrollment goals. Prior to joining Mount Mercy, Baumler served as director of institutional research at Grinnell College, with responsibilities pertaining to admission and financial aid, in addition to campus-wide institutional research. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural business from Iowa State University, Public Affairs Journalism from the U.S. Army, and a Master of Science in policy analysis from Penn State University.

Scot ReisingerScot Reisinger

Reisinger is in his fifth year as Director of Athletics at Mount Mercy. He is one of three athletic directors in the NAIA to serve on the Executive Committee of its National Administrative Council (NAC), a role he has filled for three years. Reisinger also currently serves as the chair of the Rules and Ratings Committee of the NAC. A native of Omaha, Neb., Reisinger received his bachelor's degree in political science and secondary education from Luther College in 1996. He earned his master's degree in psychology from Washington College (Md.) in 1998.

Ray KessenichRay Kessenich

Kessenich joined Mount Mercy in September 2009. As director of public safety he is responsible for all areas of campus safety and security. Specific duties include supervision and training of safety assistants, educating the college community on safety issues, serving as liaison to the college’s Safety and Security Committee, and participating on the college’s Crisis Management Team. Prior to joining the Mount Mercy community, Kessenich was the director of training for the International Multilateral Partnership against Cyber-Threats in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Kessenich has worked in Baghdad, Iraq, Washington, D.C., and various bases nation and worldwide. He received his Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Coe College, and his Master of Science in criminal justice administration from the University of Central Missouri.

Sarah BotkinSarah Botkin

Botkin came to Mount Mercy in 2006 after working at schools in Texas and Illinois. As director of student activities and orientation, Botkin oversees the student leadership program and recreation and wellness as well as Mount Mercy's Student Government Association, Clubs and Organizations. Botkin enjoys the opportunity to work with students on various projects and is always excited to meet students and families during new student orientation.
