Children's Literary Awards

Busse Library offers many award-winning titles in children's literature.   

The Newbery Medal, the first-ever children's literary award, is presented annually for achievement "..to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published by an American publisher in the United States in English during the preceding year."   (ALA, The Newbery Medal) 

The Caldecott Medal is presented annually for achievement to "...the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children published by an American publisher in the United States in English during the preceding year." (ALA, The Caldecott Medal)

The Coretta Scott King Book Awards are presented annually "..to African American authors and illustrators for outstanding inspirational and educational contributions" and "...[for] promot[ing] understanding and appreciation of the culture of all peoples and their contribution to the realization of the American dream of a pluralistic society."      (ALA, Coretta Scott King Book Awards)
