Alexander Beamer is the Principle Conductor of the Eastern Iowa Brass Band, Director of Jazz Bands and Percussion at St. Ambrose University, and a freelance percussionist.
Mr. Beamer recently completed a master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque, NM) and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Messiah College. His principle conducting teachers include Dr. Jorge Perez-Gomez, Dr. Timothy Dixon, and Dr. Bradley Genevro. He has studied percussion with Steve Fidyk, Chris Rose, Doug Cardwell and David Knott.
As a conductor, Mr. Beamer has directed and guest conducted many groups throughout the East Coast and Southwest. At UNM he was Assistant Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra and Opera Orchestra, as well as the Music Director for the UNM Wind Repertoire Collective and UNM Reading Orchestra. As a frequent Guest Conductor, he worked with such organizations as the New Mexico School of Music and the Hummingbird Music Camp.
A native of Bedford, Pennsylvania, Mr. Beamer began his musical studies in percussion at the age of five. He has received numerous awards and honors in percussion, including the Volmer Music Scholarship (2005-2009), the Kurt Durly Jazz Award (2009), and was the winner of the Messiah College Concerto Competition (2009). He was also the recipient of graduate assistantships in both orchestral conducting and jazz at the University of New Mexico, as well as the UNM Wind Symphony Performance Scholarship. Mr. Beamer has also participated in many master classes and clinics with some of the nation’s top conductors, such as Mallory Thompson, Eugene Corporon, Dennis Fisher, and Col. Timothy Holton.
Dr. Matthew Driscoll is currently the adjunct, low brass professor at Central College in Pella, IA, Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA, and the elementary band director for Bennett Elementary School. He also maintains a private studio with brass players ranging from beginning to advanced and maintains and active performing schedule in various ensembles including the Eastern Iowa Brass Band, Cedar Rapids Municipal Band. Currently, Matt performs with BTA-Brass Transit Authority throughout eastern and northern Iowa. Additionally, he has served as a substitute musician with the Des Moines, Peoria, and Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphonies. He has also performed with the Cedar Rapids, Quad City, Ottumwa, and Gasdsen Symphony Orchestra (AL).
Matt Driscoll completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in trombone performance and pedagogy at the University of Iowa. Other degrees include a Masters in Music from East Carolina University in trombone performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Jacksonville State University.
