Associate Director of Alumni Relations

Mount Mercy University is a Catholic, coeducational University founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928 enrolling over 1800 students.  The University offers a variety of liberal arts, professional, accelerated and graduate degree programs on a picturesque campus overlooking the city.

Position Summary:

Coordinate the Mount Mercy University alumni programs including event planning, management of alumni recognition and awards programs, administration of the alumni board, young alumni council, and ongoing communication with and cultivation of alumni with the specific intent of building relationships and donor readiness.  This position will also coordinate alumni volunteer programs in collaboration with various campus departments such as student recruitment, career services and athletics.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate alumni relations program including event planning, recognition and awards programs, the alumni board, and young alumni council;
  • Organize and implement alumni activities, such as Homecoming;
  • Cultivate and sustain alumni revenue streams by hosting outreach events targeting cohort groups and conducting 5-8 monthly alumni visits;
  • Establish vision with all communication creatives in collaboration with the communications and marketing department
  • Maintain alumni volunteer programs in collaboration with other University departments such as student recruitment, career services and athletics;
  • Communicate regularly with alumni through social networks and face-to-face contact;
  • Maintain an awareness and understanding through continuing education and interaction with colleagues at other institutions, of trends and developments in alumni relations;
  • Manage the alumni relations budget;
  • Produce the monthly alumni eNewsletter; 

Necessary Skills

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree.  Necessary skills include superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational and computer skills; ability to communicate effectively through social media outlets; understanding of fundamental marketing and public relations duties; available for some evening and weekend work-related activities; willing to travel as required for short periods of time; maintain knowledge and understanding of Mount Mercy’s goals and priorities;  ability to be an articulate spokesperson on behalf of Mount Mercy and interact professionally in a variety of situations (in person and on the telephone).
