Assistant Professor of Political Science

Mount Mercy University is a Catholic, coeducational University founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928 enrolling nearly 1800 students.  The University offers a variety of liberal arts, professional, accelerated, and graduate degree programs on our picturesque campus overlooking the city of Cedar Rapids.

The Political Science Program invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning with the fall term in August, 2014. Working directly under the direction of the Department Chair and indirectly under the Provost, this position requires the ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in American Government and Politics, with emphasis on American political institutions  (Congress and the Presidency, in particular), as well as introductory courses in Comparative Politics, International Relations, and/or Political Theory or Philosophy. The ability to offer a range of advanced courses and seminars in a secondary area of specialization such as Comparative Politics or International Relations is also sought. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach Public Policy, Public Administration, U.S. Foreign Policy, or State and Local Politics.  Interest in developing courses on such topics as international conflict and resolution, civil war, human rights, or development is desirable.  An active research agenda and completed Ph.D. in the field are preferred.

While excellence as an educator is the top priority, the candidate will also:

  1. Advise students
  2. Serve on campus committees
  3. Participate in department meetings and activities
  4. Engage in scholarship.

Candidates are expected to teach seven (7) classes per academic year.
