Art Education

Students majoring in Art Education actually have an Art Major with an Education minor based on the program of studies for teacher education for Mount Mercy College's Education Program and the State of Iowa.

Students generally select to be certified to teach Art as a specialty in grades K-12. However, one can opt to only do elementary Art Education or only Secondary Art Education Certification.

Instead of doing an internship as is the case in Graphic Design and Fine Arts degrees, Art Education students do public and private school classroom observations every semester Sophomore and Junior year, then student teach for an entire semester the Fall semester of their Senior year.

Students in Art Education, Fine Arts, and Graphic Design complete a Senior Thesis Exhibition and paper during their senior year.
