Emphasis in Special Education
Our understanding of special learning and behavior needs continues to grow, and so does the demand for expertly trained professionals. This emphasis lets teachers get an advanced degree in Special Education, whether or not they hold initial teacher licensure.
Individual study plans can lead to post-baccalaureate concentration as a Special Education leader. Options include Instructional Strategist I (K-8), Instructional Strategist I (5-12), or Instructional Strategist II (K-12), or Special Education (no endorsement). [more]
Emphasis in Reading
Professionals well-versed in the theory and practice of Reading are vital to helping today’s diverse learners achieve success. Designed for teachers with or without a prior endorsement in the field, this program emphasis prepares specialists in K-8 Reading.
Expertise in assessing students’ needs and improving their reading skills will be developed through clinical field work and well-planned courses grounded in research and best practice. Applicants seeking an endorsement can meet this goal while completing graduate coursework tailored to the needs of experienced professionals. [more]
Core Classes
Leadership at the core: a four-course core provides a vibrant shared experience for all Masters in Education students. These courses focus on developing the broader perspectives needed for leadership in the profession. Understanding legal and policy issues, building leadership skills, examining cultural and ethical implications, and applying the tools of investigation are but a few of the outcomes targeted by the program’s core experiences.
